DivX Disc Compatible What it means? A technology that compresses a video file to a fraction of its original size for easy storage and sharing, just as MP3 does for music files. Some DVD players can play DivX files recorded to CDs or DVDs. How it works? The DVD converted into a DIVX format using a piece of Software that can be burned to a normal CD without any major loss in Picture and Sound Quality. Benefits As like one DVD to DIVX can be burned to a normal CD-R with a Capacity of 700 MB in the same manner 6 DVDs can be converted to DIVX and can be burned to DVD Disc with a Capacity of 7.45 GB with the same amount of clarity and also with a Sound data of 5.1 Channel Surround Sound stored within it. Thus saving Storage Space as well as money for Discs. The customers can easily view all the DivX movies, which they have downloaded from Internet with high quality resolution. |

3-D Virtual Surround Sound What it means? It is a feature, which makes you feel that you are surrounded by the sound - a sort of a theatre-like effect. How it works? Wires are supplied with the speakers, and if you go in for this feature you will have to make arrangements to position the speakers and conceal the wires. Surround sound comes in several flavors, such as passive surround (which simply decodes the phase information and sends it to the rear speakers) Benefits Due to the four speakers; two near the system and two other speakers placed in other parts of the room. Hence, when the sound is heard, you will experience a 3-D effect. | No information |

Dolby Digital What it means? A discrete multichannel digital audio standard offering enhanced sonic realism. Dolby Digital is normally associated with 5.1-channel surround sound. How it works? Plays multi-channel Dolby Digital encoded DVDs and CDs and decodes digital TV broadcasts that feature digital surround sound. Benefits A DVD player can contain 5.1 channels of Dolby Digital sound - six audio channels: left, center, right, left rear, right rear, plus a subwoofer channel that handles only lower frequencies (the ".1" of 5.1 channel audio). Dolby Digital sound streams on a DVD player can range from one channel mono to six channel 5.1 |
|
DTS What it means? DTS is a well-established multichannel audio format in movie theaters, but not as common in home theater applications. Like Dolby Digital, DTS is primarily a 5.1-channel format. How it works? The compression scheme used in DTS throws away significantly less audio data than Dolby Digital.
Benefits The DTS theoretically should sound better, but so far, side-by-side comparisons have been inconclusive. |
|
Dolby Pro Logic II What it means? Dolby Pro Logic II technology processes any high quality stereo (two-channel) movie and music audio into five playback channels of full-bandwidth surround sound. Benefits One can enjoy the sound effects on a 5 channel or 5.1 channel Dvd player. |
|
Dolby Digital EX What it means? Dolby Digital EX is based on the technology already developed for Dolby Digital 5.1. This takes the Dolby Digital 5.1-channel setup one step further with an additional center surround channel (reproduced through one or two speakers) for extra dimensional detail and an enveloping surround sound effect. |

|
Recorder What it means? Many DVD Players come with a feature of recording where one can record the video on a DVD disc without using a computer. Benefits One can record movies, songs or programmes directly from the television. |

NTSC/PAL Playback What it means? It is the ability of the DVD to play CDs recorded in Pal and NTSC broadcasting systems. There are several colour broadcasting systems such as PAL, NTSC, etc. DVDs are usually compatible to all of these. How it works? When a PAL based recording is played, the system transmits only PAL signals. Similarly, a NTSC video signal is transmitted from NTSC-based software. |

Optical Digital Output What it means? Normally, audio is converted to an electric signal and transmitted through an electric wire from the player to the amplifier, etc. Changing this signal to a digital signal and transmitting it through a fiber-optic cable is called optical digital output. How it works? Optical digital audio output is a fiber optic digital audio connection used to connect the DVD player to a receiver or pre-amplifier. Benefits The connector component of the cable uses fibreoptic technology to improve the signal transfer, ensuring there is the minimum distortion between the source and the component or speaker. |

DVI Output What it means? DVI (Digital Visual Interface) converts analog signals into digital signals to maximize the quality of flat panel LCD monitors and modern video graphics cards. It is a replacement for the P&D Plug & Display standard, and a step up from the digital-only DFP format for older flat panels. How it works? DVI transmits the Data using the transition-minimized differential signaling (TMDS) protocol, providing a digital signal from the PCs graphics subsystem to the display. DVI handles bandwidths in excess of 160 MHz and thus supports UXGA and HDTV with a single set of links. Higher resolutions can be supported with a dual set of links and maximizes the signal quality. Benefits This technology developed enables a computer to store and display moving video images like those on television. The most difficult aspect of displaying TV-like images on a computer is overcoming the fact that each frame requires an immense amount of storage. A single frame can require up to 2MB (megabytes) of storage. Televisions display 30 frames per second, which can quickly exhaust a computers mass storage resources. It is also difficult to transfer so much data to a display screen at a rate of 30 frames per second. DVI overcomes these problems by using specialized processors to compress and decompress the data. |
|
HDMI Output What it means? HDMI (High Definition Multimedia Interface) is a new connectivity standard that carries high definition audio and video signals on the same cable. It is a digital cable and connection that supports digital data transmission. Unlike DVI, which supports only video transmission, HDMI supports both high definition video and audio. Benefits HDMI is superior to component and DVI. HDMI supports standard, enhanced, or high-definition video, plus multi-channel digital audio, and interactive controls on a single cable. It transmits all ATSC (Advanced Television Systems Committee) HDTV standards and supports 8-channel digital audio. |
